Easily open, modify, save, and return protected data files with Control Sentry

When you receive a file as an e-mail attachment that is protected with a BitArmor Smart Tag, it means that the file contains sensitive and private information intended only for you. BitArmor protection is used to keep the information private. With Control Sentry you can open, modify, save and return a protected data file in a way that keeps the data private. In order to get started, you will need to download a free program to a Windows computer. In order to access the data, you will need the password. The steps below will walk you through this process.

BitArmor Control Sentry is a free program that allows you to open and work with BitArmor protected data files.

To open a protected attachment:

  • Download and install Control Sentry from the BitArmor website (www.bitarmor.com/controlsentry).
  • Copy the attachment to your desktop by dragging it from the email to your desktop, or by right-clicking on the attachment in your email program and choosing “Save As”, and saving the file to your hard drive.
  • Locate the file that you saved and double-click it to open it, and enter the password given to you by the sender.
  • Read and make changes to the document. When you are done, save your changes back to the original file, and close the application. Be sure to save your changes back to the original file, or the BitArmor protection will be lost.
  • Send your changes back to the sender by attaching the modified file to an email.
